APR 2020 / ‘Monthly’ Update

test 013 sketch

Unsurprisingly, the update front has been rather void the past couple months. A couple factors, and plenty of excuses amid the pandemic of coronavirus. Being quarantined at home and blessedly still able to work from home means my lack of attention and passion for my pet project was not as passionate as I made it out to be. I still enjoy the idea dearly and I have fun with each test I produce, but the speed at which the world of tech advances and the rate at which I can fully dedicate my conscious to this effort do not align.

In any case, today I finally sat myself down to think. And do (see Test 012). Keeping motivation during these times isn’t easy, but why not revisit floating projects in the architectural abyss when we can?

Here goes!

AUG // Monthly Update

The pressure’s on as summer wraps up. There is no real pressure when there is no real deadline. Only the sense of urgency of producing something substantial. The summer I thought would be productive for my projects compared to the bustle of the school year has come and gone. The key is to stay optimistic and dedicated, and so I shall. What else is cooking — Continuing my illustrative tests and also starting to design some UI before digging into actual development. I also have been thinking about adjusting the goal/focus of the app. What is the main focus and who are my target users? What is the purpose of using this? So many questions.

Here are some quick reads:

  1. When Our Passion For Architecture Dwindles
    https://archinect.com/features/article/150153851/when-our-passion-for-architecture-dwindles
This is a must read for anyone going through any stage of their architecture journey. From just starting architecture school to steadily chugging along in their careers. Sometimes it is only until you’ve gone through it you know it’s not for you, or that there are opportunities to pivot into something different. Same but different. I’m not sure where I am at the moment either so this article really spoke to me and gave me some motivation moving forward.
  2. How to Make an Augmented Reality App for Beginners
    https://maker.pro/custom/tutorial/how-to-make-an-augmented-reality-app-for-beginners
I’ve had this saved for months, and have not tried it. Talk about motivation. It looks fun though!
  3. The Modern BIM Manager: Human, Machine, or Team?
    https://medium.com/autodesk-university/the-modern-bim-manager-human-machine-or-team-7b8724f56f8c
Started reading up on articles like these, because I wanted to consider pursuing BIM management on the side on top of my regular architecting position. Clearly it’s a full time job to keep up, so I’m not so sure anymore. Being on the cusp and having too many interests can sometimes be a hindrance. But let’s see where this can take me.

That’s all for now — happy back to school / happy fall!

JUL // Monthly Update

20190811_UIsketchtest

This is a rough idea of where I could be heading. A simple app with a camera function that highlights locations where potential details could be. A bit preliminary of an idea but something more real than the little test blocks I’ve been doing.

I’d like to keep developing ideas for what the UI/UX would be like – the ‘flowchart’-like stuff is fascinating to me, but I have very little experience in it. Of course, I won’t be abandoning the Tests. 011 is coming soon…I promise.
